As my family and I begin to celebrate our Valentine’s Day, I wanted to take a moment to remember my mother, Beth. It was 4 years ago today that she passed peacefully at home, and ironically, on her favorite day of the year. Luckily enough, she had thought ahead and written out everyone’s Valentine’s Day card in advance, an extremely cherished gift.
With the passing of my mother, the welcoming of our son, Gordie, a move to a new house, 2006 proved to be a a trying year with many highs and lows. As we prepare for our second child this April, it seems appropriate to be experiencing similar feelings of those extremes as the timing of the pregnancy and loss are almost exact.
What I also remember is the outpouring of love and support from so many friends and family. For such a trying time we could not have asked for more love or better care from our entire community of family, friends, co-workers.
Fortunately, time has healed some of our wounds, and the remembrance of Beth now brings more smiles and joy than tears. I know she is watching us from above, helping in any way she can, and wishing us all a Happy Valentine’s Day.
